Spiritual Sunday #23: Fishes and Loaves for Columbia

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.

Because I do not blog on Sundays -- keeping it as the sabbath, a practice started by Fr. Christian Mathis (Blessed Is the Kingdom) -- I use older posts (forgotten perhaps but hopefully still interesting) from one or another of my blogs that seem appropriate for this meme. It seems to work to bring out the older posts that many have not read before or ones from other blogs I maintain that readers of 100th Lamb may not know about. The one that came to mind today chronicled my early experiences with Padre (Fr.) Julio, who recently came up from San Diego to bless our new home. If you have read posts over the past couple of years about Padre Julio, then the first post might be of interest -- and it contains what seems like a bona fide miracle, to boot. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday -- well, whatever is left of it!

Spiritual Sunday #22: On Being Worthy

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday! (Unfortunately, I will have anything but a peaceful Sunday. I have to get up at 4:00 in the morning to catch a series of planes to take me from California to Virginia to a conference, where the presentation I am to give is highly technical -- and for which I do NOT feel ready.)

Spiritual Sunday #19:Things Aren't Always What They Seem

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.

It seems to work to bring out the older posts that many have not read before or ones from other blogs I maintain that readers of 100th Lamb may not know about. Since I was picked up in the middle of last night at the airport in Doha by a guy named Angel, I thought it would be appropriate to share another angel story: Things Are Not Always What They Seem. I hope you will enjoy the story.

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday, which should just be dawning for most of you. I am already far into the day, having journeyed the past two days to the farthest point in the Middle East: Qatar. I have tracked down the Mass times for today and am looking forward to going to a chapel on the desert military base where I am this evening. (One advantage to traveling is that I get to see a lot of different churches and hear a lot of different priests giving a lot of different homilies. The liturgy, regardless of location and language, is the same. That is one of the things I like about the Catholic Church: you feel at home wherever you are.)

Spiritual Sunday #43: My Unremarkable House

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.
I truly think my life is getting ahead of me! I was unable to link up last Sunday's spiritual Sunday, Temptation -- my own fault for waiting too long to upload -- so I hope that perhaps I can catch up with myself this Sunday.

Because I do not blog on Sundays -- keeping it as the sabbath, a practice started by Fr. Christian Mathis (Blessed Is the Kingdom) -- I usually use older posts (forgotten perhaps but hopefully still interesting) from one or another of my blogs that seem appropriate for this meme. Given that our house could have burned down this week, I suppose it is not a surprise that my thoughts have been about houses. So, the post I chose is about an earlier place where we lived: My Unremarkable House.

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday!

Work issues have been on my mind this week, including the constant tug to leave for something less stressful and then remembering that this is the job God put me in, so I decided to share something I posted in 2009: The Extra Manager at Today's Meeting. Sometimes it helps me to go back to earlier posts and see God's involvement in my work life. Then I know what I have to do: stay the course (which, sometimes, frankly, feels more like drinking the cup than staying the course).

Spiritual Sunday #41: Temptation

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.

Two months have passed since I have posted a spiritual Sunday comment. Seems impossible. Sometimes my life, with all the travel and all the family goings-on, seems a bit unreal to me, but then, since I have never walked in anyone else's shoes, perhaps everyone has moments of feeling that their lives are unreal.

It seems to work to bring out the older posts that many have not read before or ones from other blogs I maintain that readers of 100th Lamb may not know about.

This week I decided to post something earlier from a double-posting on my Modern Mysticism blog. It seemed appropriate, mainly to remind myself that I am right where God wants me to be, given that there is a lot of noise being made at work recently to reduce the higher salaries by 25% (I would be in that group, and it would really make it difficult for me to help Shane with his million-dollar baby) and perhaps even to change the position itself (which would require me to come to a different location -- more time and expense in getting there because it is farther from my house). All that, of course, is nervous-making, and since I travel a lot, I miss out on many of the details of the current discussion and thinking (although that may be for the best). Remembering that God put me here has kept me from following up on the temptation to run out and get another job with the same benefits and fewer hassles. If I were to guess, the reason I am here is to help everyone else survive those hassles and to be a conduit for God to reach those dealing with them (seems to be working that way, anyway). So, here is the post: Temptation.

Spiritual Sunday #40: "The Stranger Within Our Gates"

For more Spiritual Sunday posts, I recommend that you wander over to the website of Charlotte and Ginger, who host the Spiritual Sunday meme.

Because I do not blog on Sundays -- keeping it as the sabbath, a practice started by Fr. Christian Mathis (Blessed Is the Kingdom) -- I usually use older posts (forgotten perhaps but hopefully still interesting) from one or another of my blogs that seem appropriate for this meme. It seems to work to bring out the older posts that many have not read before or ones from other blogs I maintain that readers of 100th Lamb may not know about.

This week, however, I decided to share with you the delightful verse I found last night on my pillow at the Omaha Doubletree, as I returned from a day of work in Nebraska (business trip) and was prepared to pack up for a very early morning departure:
In ancient times there was a prayer for 'The Stranger Within Our Gates'

Because this hotel is a human institution to serve people and not solely a money-making organization, we hope that God will grant you peace and rest while you are under our roof.

May this room and hotel be your "second" home. May those you love be near you in thoughts and dreams. Even though we may not get to know you, we hope that you will be comfortable and happy as if you were in your own house. May the business that brought you our way prosper. May every call you make and every message you receive add to your joy. When you leave, may your journey be safe.

We are all travelers. From "birth till death" we travel between eternities. May these days be pleasant for you, profitable for society, helpful for those you meet, and a joy to those who know and love you best.
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday!

This week I have chosen a post from 2009, a lesson learned and re-learned and one I hope I will now always remember: On the Unwiseness of Taking Things Back.
